Health Care

Healthcare services in Vilnius are provided by public, municipal and private healthcare institutions. Residents who are covered by compulsory health insurance can access publicly funded healthcare services at healthcare institutions that have agreements with the National Health Insurance Fund. Access to publicly funded healthcare services depends on a person’s health insurance status and other conditions established by Lithuanian legislation.

Emergency medical assistance is available to everyone in Lithuania. In case of a medical emergency, call 112 or go directly to the emergency department of the nearest hospital.

Citizens of EU/EEA countries and Switzerland should have a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) or a Provisional Replacement Certificate to receive medically necessary healthcare under the applicable conditions.

Third-country nationals and persons who are not covered by health insurance may be required to pay for healthcare services, except in cases where emergency medical assistance is provided in accordance with Lithuanian legislation.

If you are experiencing emotional or psychological difficulties, you may be eligible for free mental health support in Vilnius. For those who meet the applicable conditions, psychiatric and psychotherapeutic services are provided free of charge by Ukrainian-speaking specialists for both adults and children.

Consultations are available at the Psychotraumatology Centre of the Vilnius City Mental Health Centre (Vasaros St. 5, Vilnius).

The Vilnius Public Health Bureau (Vilnius Sveikiau) offers a wide range of free health promotion, disease prevention and well-being programmes for Vilnius residents. These include physical activity and healthy lifestyle initiatives, mental health and emotional well-being support, addiction prevention services, health education activities, and programmes for children, young people, families and older adults.
